Nothing in this test method supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption is granted. An air circulation oven is used, which can keep the required temperature in the range of ±2 °C.

One test container plus one control container is required for each encoding. The test cup, lid and rack should not release or absorb any odorous volatile matter. Only glass containers and lids will be allowed. The cover will be closed with a flat floor connection. No sealing grease or sealing rings shall be used.

The necessary support racks or shelves inside the container will be made of glass or glazed ceramic. It is recommended to use desiccators of appropriate size. The lid should be from a steam seal with the container.

The test cup, including the lid and possibly the insert, must be carefully cleaned before each test. It will not have a distinctive smell.
