ISO 11452-2 Road Vehicles - Component Test Methods for Electrical Disturbances from Electromagnetic Energy - Part 2: Shielded Enclosure with Absorbent Lined

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 11452-2 standard. Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), this part of the ISO 11452 standard is with absorber lining to test the immunity (non-vehicle radiation source) of electronic components for passenger cars and commercial vehicles independent of the propulsion system (e.g. spark ignition engine, diesel engine, electric motor). Specifies a shielded enclosure method.

ISO 11452-2 Road Vehicles - Component Test Methods for Electrical Disturbances from Electromagnetic Energy - Part 2: Shielded Enclosure with Absorbent Lined

The device under test (DUT), together with the wiring harness (prototype or standard test harness), is subject to electromagnetic disturbance generated within a shielded enclosure with an absorber liner, with peripheral devices inside or outside the enclosure. It is only applicable to disturbances caused by continuous narrowband electromagnetic fields.

Immunity measurements of complete vehicles can often only be performed by the vehicle manufacturer, for example, due to the high costs of absorbent-lined shielded enclosures, the desire to maintain the confidentiality of prototypes, or the large number of different vehicle models.

For research, development and quality control, a laboratory measurement method can be used by both vehicle manufacturers and equipment suppliers to test electronic components.

The radiated electromagnetic fields are generated using the antenna with a radio frequency (RF) energy source capable of generating the desired field strengths. A set of antennas and multiple RF amplifiers may be required to cover the test frequency range. The area is electrically monitored with small probes to ensure proper test levels. The operation of the DUT is often monitored by fiber optic couplers to reduce test error.

Stimulation and Monitoring of the DUT

The DUT should be operated as required in the test plan by actuators that have minimal impact on electromagnetic properties, eg plastic blocks on buttons, pneumatic actuators with plastic tubing.

Connections to equipment monitoring the electromagnetic interference reactions of the DUT can be made using fiber optic or high resistance cables. Other types of lead can be used, but extreme care must be taken to minimize interactions. The orientation, length and location of such leads should be carefully documented to ensure repeatability of test results.

Any electrical connection of monitoring equipment to the DUT can cause the DUT to malfunction. Extreme care must be taken to avoid such an effect.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 11452-2 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
