GMW 14573 Global Performance Requirements Test Standard for Labels

The labels required in this standard are intended to convey information as well as comply with legal requirements, product liability requirements, or information required for use of the vehicle throughout its entire vehicle lifecycle.

A label is a message applied to a vehicle or component that alerts, informs, or instructs. All messages other than specifications, barcodes or identification marks are classified as labels. Wherever possible, tag messages should be integrated directly into the flagged component; for example, embossed, embossed, pad-printed, laser-etched, inscribed, silk-screened; to eliminate the need for a unique label part number and assembly process.

This standard addresses performance requirements for pressure sensitive adhesive labels, integrated labels (eg, in-mold, heat applied, hot ink, fused), and sewn on labels.

Production-aid-only labels are not covered by this document, but may use the appropriate tests described here to help ensure labels function properly.
