ISO 21780 Road Vehicles - 48 V Supply Voltage - Electrical Requirements and Tests

The ISO 21780 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), covers requirements and tests for electrical and electronic components in road vehicles equipped with an electrical system operating at a nominal voltage of 48 V DC. General requirements for 48 V DC electrical systems include voltage ranges and slow voltage transitions and fluctuations (excluding EMC).

A component may contain several functions that may have different functional states for the same value of the affecting parameter. For the purpose of this document, the influencing parameter is the supply voltage. Functional status is a minimum requirement.

Each selected functional state level and component functional behavior (including derating) related to customer perception (e.g. visual, acoustic, tactile and thermal) should be defined and agreed upon between customer and supplier and described in the required component documentation.

Functional State 1 (FS1)

The function must meet a specified performance without any deviations. No derating or shutdown is allowed.

Functional State 2 (FS2)

The function must meet a specific performance with a specified variation above or below the FS1's specified performance. Depreciation allowed, shutdown not allowed.

Functional State 3 (FS3)

The function may not provide the specified performance. Depreciation or shutdown is allowed. If the required operating conditions are met, the function will automatically recover and return to the specified performance level.

Functional State 4 (FS4)

The function may not provide the specified performance. Depreciation or shutdown is allowed. The function will only revert to and return to specified performance after a change in vehicle operating state (eg, ignition status change, vehicle restart) occurs and the required operating conditions are met.

Functional State 5 (FS5)

The DUT is unable to perform one or more functions while applying the test parameters, the DUT will not fire itself as defined. Once the application is terminated, the DUT is no longer usable unless repaired or replaced.

Among the services provided by our organization within the framework of material testing services, there are also ISO 21780 standard tests. Do not hesitate to contact our laboratory EUROLAB for your testing and certification requests.
