This Japanese Industry Standard JIS D0201 specifies the general rules for electroplating of auto parts, mainly for anti-corrosion, anti-rust and decorative purposes.

Vehicle Interior, the place of use of parts mounted outside the car body and not directly or indirectly exposed to air. The ground will be considered non-vehicle when indirectly or partially exposed to air.

Vehicle Exterior, the place of use of parts attached to the outside of the automobile body and exposed to air directly or indirectly. A ground is considered off-vehicle if it is indirectly or partially exposed to air, even inside the vehicle.

The Significant Area is an application-important surface and will be any of the following:

  • The surface can be seen from the normal side in use.
  • The surface is easily subject to wear and damage.
  • Surface subject to functional change due to corrosion or rot formation.
  • The surface is usually touched by hand.
