Tests under Regulation (EU) 2021/535

Regulation (EU) 2021/535 published by the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to the uniform procedures and technical specifications for the type-approval of vehicles and systems, components and separate technical units for such vehicles, published on general construction features and safety It contains the rules for the implementation of the regulation (EU) 2019/2144.

Regulation (EU) 2021/535 lays down provisions for uniform procedures and technical specifications for European Union type-approval of systems, components and individual technical units defined in regulation (EU) 2019/2144, as well as vehicles of category M, N and O. .

For the purposes of regulation (EU) 2021/535, the term vehicle type refers to a set of vehicles defined in regulation annexes (EU) 2018/858.

In short, this regulation introduces new principles for M, N and O category vehicles and their trailers and for systems, components and separate technical units for these vehicles. It contains administrative and technical requirements for these tools in the following areas:

• Manufacture plate requirements as well as adding a check digit to the vehicle identification number and a definition of the calculation method for the check digit
• Placing identification marks on the front and back
• Windscreen wipers (including lamp washers)

• Windshield defrosting and demisting systems

• Entry conditions for the vehicle

• Front protection systems for vehicles of category M1 and N1
• Masses and dimensions
• Requirements for material compatibility and hydrogen embrittlement for components for hydrogen systems and hydrogen powered vehicles, which are important to ensure a high level of safety when it comes to material selection in hydrogen systems

This regulation, which determines the rules regarding the general structural features and safety of vehicles and was published in 2021, is valid as of July 2022.
