ECE R58 Standard Test Method for Rear Guard Assembly

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R58 standard. The rear protective bumpers of heavy commercial vehicles such as trucks and tow trucks used for cargo transportation are designed and applied in accordance with the ECE R58 regulation.

This regulation specifies the criteria that the rear protective bumpers to be used in heavy vehicles must meet.

This Regulation does not apply to:

• Towing units for articulated vehicles;
• Timber, steel bars etc. Trailers specially designed and manufactured for the transport of very long loads of indivisible length;
• Any RUPD (eg fixed, removable, collapsible, adjustable, etc.)
• Vehicles for which it is incompatible for use on traffic roads may be partially or completely exempted from this regulation, depending on the decision of the type approval authority.

The cross-sectional height of the traverse must be at least 120 mm. The side ends of the traverse should not be bent backwards or have a sharp outer edge; this condition is fulfilled when the lateral ends of the crossmember are externally rounded and have a radius of curvature of not less than 2,5 mm.
