For paint material approval, the paint system must be listed as approved in the GM Materials Approved Source List system. Dye systems approved to this specification will need to carry a type suffix to indicate the classification and tactile feel it has on human skin.

This specification covers requirements for an indoor, water-based or solvent-based, one- or two-component paint system for use on parts made from paintable olefins, including rigid Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) and Polypropylene (PP). All surfaces should be tested according to GMW 16172 to verify paintability.

The tactile feel must be approved by the GM Design Quality Paint Development Leader before evaluating paint system performance. Paint types with a designated GM tactile master will have all paint system performance tests reviewed by the region that created the tactile master prior to GM Materials Approved Source List approval.
