Any material development issue, such as chemical or performance values outside of the specified ranges, should be discussed with the appropriate GM Materials Engineer for resolution. The material must successfully complete a production trial at a target facility before it is released for general use.
This specification applies to zinc phosphate conversion coating materials intended for use in automotive vehicles and related components. These coatings should provide the substrates with a crystalline, corrosion resistant, paint adhesion promoting surface. Additional substrates may be required by the GM Engineer to facilitate approval testing.

The maximum allowable coating thickness on threaded fasteners should be twice the minimum specified coating thickness. The maximum coating thickness that can be applied to teeth in threaded products is limited to the basic thread size (tolerance h or H). After coating, the parts should be measured with an appropriate basic size GO thread gauge.
