ISO 12219-7 Test for Determination of Odor in Indoor Air of Road Vehicles and Trim Components in Test Room Air with Odor Capture Measurements

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 12219-7 testing. This standard specifies a standard and objective process for analyzing and determining the olfactory behavior of components, semi-finished products and materials installed in road vehicles.

ISO 12219-7 Test for Determination of Odor in Indoor Air of Road Vehicles and Trim Components in Test Room Air with Odor Capture Measurements

Odor detection is carried out using samples taken from the indoor air of road vehicles or from the emission test room air. This document describes an olfactory screening method based on different scales for olfactory assessment described in the appendices. Other olfactory assessments are also possible, for example according to ISO 16000-28, but are not the focus of this document.

Volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds (VOCs and SVOCs) are widely used in industry and can be emitted by many everyday products and materials. Due to their effects on indoor air quality, they have attracted attention in recent years. After homes and workplaces, people spend a lot of time in their vehicles.

It is important to identify the material emissions of interior components and, if necessary, reduce them to an acceptable level. For this reason, it is necessary to obtain comprehensive and reliable information about the types and concentrations of organic compounds in the indoor air of vehicles and the odor impression.

Since odor assessment is based on very subjective impressions, it is necessary to make this subjectivity comparable to a standard procedure. This document describes a controlled odor investigation of the interior air of road vehicles and the room air of trim components.
This document uses test chambers (see ISO 16000-28) and sensory testing of indoor air (see 30 ), but different odor assessment schemes developed for the automotive industry.

A risk assessment should be carried out to clarify the absence of harmful compounds in the room. In some countries, an ethics committee may require this.
