ECE R69 Standard Test for Approval of Rear Signs of Slow Moving Vehicles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R69 standard. The ECE R-69 regulation published by the European Economic Commission (ECE) regulates the principles for the approval of the rear signage plates of slow-moving vehicles.

This technical regulation contains uniform provisions for the approval of rear signage plates for vehicles with a speed of less than 30 km/h.

This regulation applies to rear marking plates of vehicles falling into the following categories:

• Vehicles of category M (at least four-wheeled, motorized and passenger-carrying vehicles);
• N category vehicles (vehicles with at least four wheels, motorized and used for freight transport);
• Vehicles of category O (non-motorized vehicles with less than four wheels, towed by a motor vehicle and used for the transport of goods);
• T category vehicles (agricultural and forestry tractors with at least two axles, wheeled or tracked motors, the main function of which is to provide traction);
• Mobile machines that cannot move faster than 40 kilometers per hour.

The application for approval of the rear marking plate of slow moving vehicles is made by the manufacturer or its authorized representative. Drawings that are detailed enough to allow the identification of the type during the application, the diagram showing the location where the plate will be attached to the rear of the vehicle, the technical characteristics of the materials where the retro-reflective areas are made and the technical characteristics of the materials for which the forescent area is made must be submitted to the technical service that will perform the approval process.
