EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of VDA 230-214 standard. This VDA test specification sheet describes procedures for corrosion testing of metallic materials and surfaces intended for use in exhaust gas-carrying components.
The test results provide information on which materials tend to show corrosive reactions when exposed to corrosion conditions on the exhaust gas side. In doing so, special exhaust gas condensates and a defined, newly developed test technology are used.
Testing of corrosion properties under atmospheric corrosion (other than the component carrying the exhaust gas) is not part of this VDA test specification.
These parameters should also be adjusted in trials if the actual temperatures and possible condensate compositions to which the exhaust gas contacting surfaces deviate substantially from the condensates described in this test specification sheet. In this case, the relevant deviations must be agreed upon by the parties involved.
It should be noted that the application of the laboratory experiments described here cannot replace actual component behavior in practical field conditions. Regarding the decision regarding material selection for vehicle components in contact with exhaust gas, additional extended testing above and beyond the content of the component-specific tests described herein should be performed using practical exposures.
