Standard Test Method for Approval of Braking System in ECE R78 Class L Vehicles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R78 standard. The ECE R78 regulation published by the European Economic Commission (ECE) regulates the principles for the approval of braking schemes in L-class vehicles.

This technical regulation contains uniform provisions for the approval of the braking system of vehicles in the following categories.

This technical regulation applies to the following vehicle categories:

• Vehicles of category L1 (two-wheeled motor vehicles with a cylinder volume less than or equal to 50 cm3 and whose maximum speed by nature does not exceed 45 km/h);
• L2 category vehicles (three-wheeled motor vehicles with a cylinder volume less than or equal to 50 cm3 and whose maximum speed by nature does not exceed 45 km/h);
• L3 category vehicles (two-wheeled, non-basketless motor vehicles with a cylinder displacement greater than 50 cm3 and with a maximum speed exceeding 45 km/h in terms of construction);
• L4 category vehicles (motor vehicles with a cylindrical displacement of more than 50 cm3 and with a maximum speed of 45 km/h in terms of construction);
• Vehicles of category L5 (three-wheeled motor vehicles with a cylinder displacement of more than 50 cm3 and with a maximum speed exceeding 45 km/h by nature).

The application for approval is made by the manufacturer or its authorized representative. During the application, a description of the vehicle type, numbers and symbols identifying the vehicle and engine type, a list of properly identified components that make up the braking system, a diagram of the braking system and a diagram of the location of its components on the vehicle must be submitted to the technical service.
