This standard was originally published for external, visible rubber parts, including but not limited to boots, gimps, and gaskets. Material selection must be reviewed and approved by Ford Materials Engineering.

Testing should be performed with Design Verification (DV) and Product Verification (PV) and, where possible, on actual production parts or part of the part, unless otherwise agreed by Materials Engineering.

Where piece sizes limit testing equipment access, representative test samples can be substituted. DV Test, Process Window DOE, should follow. The PV Test should be performed on actual production machined parts. No changes in material, facility or processing are permitted without Ford's written approval.

All test values ​​are based on parts conditioned in a controlled atmosphere of 24 +/- 23 °C and 2% RH for at least 50 hours prior to testing and were tested under the same conditions unless otherwise stated.

Suppliers seeking approval of their materials will first receive a statement of interest from Purchasing, Design or Product Development and Materials Engineering. Supplier must provide a completed copy of laboratory test reports signed by a qualified and authorized representative of the test facility, demonstrating full compliance with all requirements of the Material Specification. Samples of tested material should be available for inspection upon request and retained for at least one year. Upon request, the supplier will review Ford associated quality control documents (Process Failure Mode and Impact Analysis, Control Plans, Certification testing).
