PSA D44 1119 Standard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Rubbers and Flexible Plastics

The purpose of the method is to evaluate the abrasion resistance of flexible plastics and rubbers (plasticized polyvinyl chloride, thermoplastic polyurethane, etc.) by subjecting the measuring cylinder to the action of an abrasive plate.

The measuring roller is subjected to continuous friction on a defined abrasive plate under a stress of 5 N. The tendency to wear with wear is expressed as either the wear volume index (the percentage of the volume used of the material under test).

The measuring cylinder consists of cylinders with a diameter of 16 mm ± 0,2 mm or 8 mm ± 0,1 mm and a thickness of 6 to 10 mm. Preferably the measuring cylinder used is a 16 mm measuring cylinder.

The 8 mm measuring cylinder will only be used when the size of the finished object does not allow sampling from the 16 mm measuring cylinder. Where there are only weakly thick (2 to 6 mm) plates or parts, the measuring rollers will be 16 mm ± 0,2 mm or 8 mm ± 0,1 mm diameter washers to be glued onto the steel.

Measuring cylinders will be cut into plates or pieces using a rotating die. It is recommended to lubricate the instrument using a wetting agent without affecting the wear behavior of the measuring cylinder.

In the case of rubber measuring rollers, the accepted curing conditions (time and temperature) are those held for 2 mm thick plates.
