GMW 14700 Test Standard for Stone Impact Resistance of Coatings

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of GMW 14700 standard. This standard describes test procedures for evaluating the stone impact resistance of organic coatings. It can be applied to coated metallic, plastic or composite materials.

Method A is a closed method in which the gravel meter is kept in a constant temperature freezer and Method B is the transfer method in which test panels are transferred from a freezer to the gravel meter at room temperature. Method C is a closed method in which the gravel gauge is kept in a chamber at constant temperature.

Method A: A cold room or freezer of sufficient size in which the gravlometer and test specimens can be stored at -18 °C ± 2 °C.

Method B: A freezer where test samples can be cooled down to the test temperature of -18 °C ± 2 °C. Preconditioning that causes frost on the surface of test specimens should be avoided.

Method C : A room where the gravlometer and test specimens can be kept at +22 °C ± 5 °C.

If this standard is used on uncoated panels (eg color molded (MIC) plastic), alternative assessment and rating procedures will be required.

This standard is typically used in, but not limited to, exterior applications on vehicle bodies for substrates with different organic coatings. The standard also includes, for example, chassis parts, under-hood parts, etc. It can also be used for other purposes, such as preloading organic coated metals in front of corrosion testing.
