SAE J1113-41 Measurement Methods of Radio Distortion Characteristics of Components for the Protection of Receivers Used in Vehicles

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of the SAE J1113-41 test. This SAE Standard contains limits and procedures for measuring radio disturbances in the frequency range 150 kHz to 1000 MHz.

SAE J1113-41 Measurement Methods of Radio Distortion Characteristics of Components for the Protection of Receivers Used in Vehicles

The standard applies to any electronic/electrical component intended for use in vehicles and large appliances. The limits are intended to protect receivers mounted in a vehicle against disturbances produced by components/modules in the same vehicle.

The types of receivers that must be protected are: audio and television receivers, land mobile radio, radiotelephone, amateur and citizen radio. For the purpose of this document, the vehicle is a self-propelled machine. Vehicles include (but are not limited to) passenger cars, trucks, farm tractors, and snowmobiles.

The limits in this standard are recommended and are subject to change upon agreement between the vehicle manufacturer and the component supplier. This document shall also be applied by manufacturers and suppliers of components and equipment to be added and connected to the vehicle wiring harness or on-board power connector after delivery of the vehicle.

This standard does not cover the protection of electronic control systems from radio frequency (RF) emissions or transient or pulse-type voltage fluctuations. These topics are covered in other sections of SAE J1113.

Because mounting location, vehicle body structure, and wiring harness design can affect the coupling of radio interference to the in-vehicle radio, multiple limit levels are defined in this standard. The level class to be used (as a function of the frequency band) will be agreed between the vehicle manufacturer and the component supplier.
