EN ISO 6469-1 Electrically Powered Road Vehicles - Safety Features - Part 1: Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS)

This standard specifies safety requirements for rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS) of electrically powered road vehicles for the protection of persons. It does not provide comprehensive safety information for production, maintenance and repair personnel.

Unless otherwise specified in this standard, voltage class B RESS must meet the electrical safety requirements according to ISO 6469-3. These electrical safety requirements can be met for a component or vehicle level RESS.

RESS will provide the following safety performance under mechanical loads from vibration and mechanical shock that a vehicle will likely encounter during normal operation throughout its life.

RESS will provide the following safety performance under a climatic load caused by rapid temperature changes that RESS will likely encounter during normal operation of a vehicle.

RESS must provide the following safety performance when exposed to fire from outside the vehicle. A thermal load may occur due to a fuel fire under the vehicle. Such a fire could be caused by fire from the vehicle itself or from ignited fuel spilled from a nearby vehicle. The aim is to allow time for the evacuation of the driver, passengers and bystanders.
