EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of GMW 14146 standard. This standard applies to textile materials, including fabric and leather.

GMW 14146 Standard Test Method for Seam Tear Resistance

The purpose of this test is to determine the "tearing" resistance of yarns or fibers of felts, leathers and other trimming materials.

There are two test procedures:

  • Procedure A: Stitch Tear (using a needle);
  • Procedure B: Tear the Seam Point (using a flat mandrel).

Procedure A will be used for all materials except leather. Use Procedure B for the skin.

This test procedure measures the loop tear resistance, defined as the maximum force achieved when a piercing (needle or flat mandrel) moving perpendicular to the thread direction is pulled through a test piece at a given speed.
