The SAE automotive rubber specifications committee (CARS) is solely responsible for SAE J200. CARS works closely with and receives input from ASTM Subcommittee D200 on the Classification of Rubber Compounds to keep SAE J2000 and ASTM D11.30 technically equivalent.
This standard can serve many of the needs of other industries in much the same way as SAE steels. However, it should not be forgotten that this system can be revised in line with automotive needs. It is recommended to always use the latest revision.
This standard is based on the premise that all rubber materials intended for use in rubber products can be arranged into characteristic markings. These designations are determined by types according to heat aging resistance and by classes according to resistance to oil and swelling. Thus, along with values \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbdescribing additional requirements, basic levels are established that allow the full description of the quality of all rubber materials.
If the rubber product is to be used for purposes where the requirements are too specific to be fully determined by this classification system, the buyer should consult the supplier in advance to determine suitable properties, test methods and suitable properties.
