This standard defines an "air tank" as a single or multiple chambered receptacle used for the storage of compressed air. This standard does not apply to accumulators or reservoirs for the storage of gases other than compressed air.
The purpose of this standard is to provide minimum performance requirements and a method for determining new production air brake reservoirs. Additional requirements for corrosion resistance and pressure fatigue tests should be considered by the vehicle manufacturer.
