FCA PF.90060 Functional Performance Specification for Interior Sunshades

The “FCA PF.90060 Functional performance specification for interior sun visors” standard developed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) describes the environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements for interior sun visors. At the same time, this standard defines test procedures and test equipment for indoor sunshade groups.

FCA PF.90060 Functional Performance Specification for Interior Sunshades

Interior blinds are a complete assembly consisting of an aesthetic layer made of vinyl, fabric or foam material and a bottom layer made of an energy-absorbing material. It includes the following components with various functions: pivot arm and bracket assembly, center support assembly, bracket, vanity mirror assembly, trunk and headliner attachments, map pockets or straps, swivel features, and similar components.

Interior sun visors aim to provide protection for front passengers in vehicles from sunlight coming from both the front and the side, as well as providing an adequate field of vision at all times.

The materials and processes used to manufacture interior blinds must comply with employee and consumer health, worker safety, regulated substances, recycling and environmental reporting requirements. At the same time, in order for the products to be offered to the European single market (European Union countries and the common market), they must also meet the requirements of the "CS-9003 Material content reporting, marking, recyclability" standard.

Mandatory or recommended tests defined in the FCA PF.90060 standard are intended to ensure compliance with the standard, but do not relieve the responsible organization from ensuring that the component or system meets all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements.

The standard contains tables summarizing all requirements. When starting tests, a test plan is first prepared to verify the functions specified in these requirements. Samples used for design verification must meet the specified drawing tolerance range. Samples for production verification must meet the statistical capabilities of the machine and production processes. Where necessary, each item of the test plan is supported by a detailed test or laboratory procedure. The responsible organization may request additional tests deemed necessary to meet functional requirements.

If there are recommended or specified components or suppliers, they must still comply with this standard. The obligation remains to ensure that the system or suppliers using recommended or specified components meet all environmental, physical, electrical, mechanical, functional, regulatory and durability requirements as defined in the standard for the specified useful life.

Environmental testing should replicate the variety of conditions the product will encounter throughout its lifecycle using accelerated testing strategies. In this regard, interior sunshades,

  • Must maintain fit, form, function and visual appearance
  • It should not show functional deterioration such as undesirable deterioration, color change, odor, warping, staining, delamination, fabric tearing, deformation, physical breakage, cracking and undesirable sounds.
  • It should not show any change other than its original state.

Compliance with these environmental requirements is ensured at the design verification and production verification stages using verification tests recommended by the FCA for these requirements.

Interior sunshades must withstand extreme temperatures of minus 30 degrees to plus 90 degrees over the life of the vehicle and stresses up to 95 percent relative humidity or 100 percent relative humidity for convertibles. For interior blinds exposed to direct sunlight, they must withstand extreme temperatures of minus 30 degrees to plus 105 degrees and relative humidity stresses of up to 95 percent.

According to the FCA PF.90060 standard, the interior sunshade assembly and its components must withstand harsh transportation and storage conditions without exhibiting any deterioration in aesthetic, functional, physical, mechanical or electrical requirements under the following conditions:

  • Extended transportation in an unheated air cargo hold at high altitude
  • Closed shipping containers with radiant heat from exposure to sunlight in hot climates
  • Exposure to localized extreme conditions during storage at the assembly facility

Among the numerous testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies provided to businesses by our organization, there are also test services in accordance with the "FCA PF.90060 Functional performance specification for interior sunshades" standard.
