Electric vehicles currently available have rated system voltages of 400 V, resulting in load currents of up to several 100 A.
When carrying such currents, large size and heavy weight electrical components such as relays and fuses are required. Therefore, voltage levels up to 800 V are currently planned for commercial use by automotive manufacturers to reduce load currents and manage heat losses when using smaller components.
