ISO 19453-4 Road Vehicles - Propulsion System of Electric Driven Vehicles - Environmental Conditions Test for Electrical and Electronic Equipment

ISO 19453-4 specifies requirements for electrical drive systems and components with a maximum operating voltage according to voltage class B. It does not apply to high-voltage battery packs (for traction, for example) and the systems and components inside. It describes potential environmental stresses and specifies recommended tests and requirements for different stress levels on the vehicle.

This test simulates exposure of the DUT to low temperatures without electrical starting, e.g. During transportation of the system/component, the failure mode is a failure due to insufficient frost resistance, e.g. freezing of a cooler.

This is a time-lapse test that simulates multiple slow temperature cycles in the vehicle. Acceleration is possible due to a much higher rate of temperature change and a greater temperature change in one cycle compared to actual vehicle stress.

Failure modes are cracking of materials or gasket failures caused by aging and different coefficients of temperature expansion. Since this test produces mechanical failures (cracks), electrical actuation is not required during the test.
