SAE J2020 Standard for Accelerated Exposure of Automotive Exterior Materials Using Fluorescent UV and Condensation Apparatus

The SAE J2020 test method specifies the operating conditions of a fluorescent ultraviolet (UV) and condensing apparatus used for accelerated exposure of various automotive exterior components.

This test method is designed to provide exposure acceleration to simulate the extreme environmental conditions encountered outside of an automobile due to sunlight, heat and predict the performance of exterior automotive materials. Unless otherwise stated, all dimensions declared in this method are nominal.

The number of samples required is one, but iterations are desirable. Typical dimensions of the sample: 50 mm X 75 mm, 75 mm X 100 mm, 75 mm X 150 mm (most standard sizes), 100 mm X 150 mm. The SAE J2020 test is initiated by the condensation cycle and samples are examined weekly during the condensation cycle to ensure the presence of condensation.
