TL 52498 Fiber Insulation Material Requirements for Exhaust Systems

The damping material specified in this standard is used for sound absorption in the front, middle and rear mufflers of motor vehicle exhaust systems.

TL 52498 Fiber Insulation Material Requirements for Exhaust Systems

The fibrous material specified in this standard is classified as "non-hazardous to health" according to the dangerous substances regulation valid at the time of publication. This classification is due to fiber sizes.

For full testing, 10 test specimens in finished form or 1 kg of fibrous material (in the case of coil products) are required. Additional test material is available on request. The material is subject to technical engineering approval (bmg). Other tests such as function tests and road trials are required for an evaluation.

The fibrous material should facilitate trouble-free processing under standard production conditions in all forms of delivery. Considering the packing density, bagged products should be adapted to the design of the respective silencer chamber.

The contours of the molded parts must be perfectly formed. If molded parts are combined from several separate parts, fiberglass, pe or pp strips will be used. For adhesive bonds, inorganic adhesives will be preferred to organic ones.

Depending on the requirements, filament (coil goods) to be placed directly on the mufflers, filament packed in pp film bags or organically bonded molded part should be used.
