UIC 651 Layout of Driver Cabins in Locomotives, Wagons, Multi-Unit Trains and Driving Trailers

It is designed not only to facilitate international traffic, but also to give general tips for the layout of driver's cabins. Besides specific features, these rules apply equally to shunting locomotives.

The guidelines in this brochure are based on the size definition given in UIC Brochure 505. Railways with a smaller span may not be able to comply with the provisions of the brochure: access to driver's cabins, freedom of movement inside the cabin, visibility conditions. In this case, if the vehicles will be used in international traffic, a waiver must be requested.
