The standard applies to parts with surface treatment concept IF according to STD 4111. If no other requirement document is specified, STD 4165 also applies to the IS surface treatment concept.
White corrosion can be distinguished from haze by gently spraying the parts with deionized water and assessing them while they are still wet.
If slight discoloration persists, it is white corrosion and not hazy. White corrosion also creates a palpable corrosion deposit on the surface while no haze is formed. When assessing white corrosion, it is important not to remove corrosion products.
