All consist of an alkaline zinc nickel alloy and trivalent chromium passide. A2, A3, A4, A5 and A6 are also coated with a clear sealant to increase corrosion resistance or provide consistent torque tension control.
Zinc-nickel coatings have been developed as a result of increased requirements for corrosion protection against exposure to temperature, road salt and climatic conditions, particularly from the automotive industry. Zinc-nickel coatings are normally used where conventional zinc plating is insufficient due to high temperatures or aggressive environmental conditions.
Ni participation rates are around 10-15%. ZnNi substrates offer optimum cathodic corrosion protection and are highly resistant to thermal loads (up to 120°C). This type of surface finish is generally used on steel, ferrous castings and powdered metals.
