VOLVO STD 423-0018 Standard Test Method for Moisture Resistance

This method refers to the determination of the moisture resistance of dry paint films and aging testing of adhesives and sealants in tropical booths under humid conditions according to a specified temperature cycle and 100% relative humidity.

When applying the standard, it should be clearly stated how long the test piece will be exposed to moisture and how moisture resistance will be evaluated. Chapter 5 evaluation contains examples of methods to be used for this purpose.

The test piece shall consist of a test panel or part of a body part, cabinet part or the like and shall be painted and cured according to the relevant process requirements. In the case of adhesives and sealants, they must be applied and cured according to the respective process requirements.

Unless otherwise stated, the test piece should be evaluated immediately after the completed test cycle. Where wet conditions are required prior to assessment, a maximum of 1 hour in deionized water at room temperature. An evaluation of the properties specified in the relevant material standard will be made.

Prior to testing, all features to be evaluated and any irregularities on the surface of the test piece (fingerprint, dripping, etc.) should be noted. The test piece should be placed in the tropical cabinet when the temperature reaches its lowest point.
