This standard describes the test of weather resistance in the open air of passenger compartment components, vehicle trim, engine compartment and vehicle fitted attachments.
It should be applied in the development of tools, components and material samples and in monitoring standard production. The application of this standard is aimed at providing adequate resistance to outdoor conditions.
Weather resistance is tested on vehicles by default. If individual components are tested, special attention should be paid to suitable weather conditions, such as location and temperature conditions in the vehicle, using appropriate auxiliary structures.
Resistance to Outdoor Conditions (1 year)
Vehicles, assemblies and components are considered to be weatherproof outdoors if no complaints are detected after a one-year test period in humid heat.
Complaints Include:
Component deformations in the form of cracks, holes, breaks, fragmentation, material changes in the form of softening, dents, waves, warping, displacement, gap changes, insufficient secure fit or changing setting forces, functional errors, delamination (in the material or between composite layers), color shifts ( e.g. yellowing, reddening, fading, graying), gloss changes, surface haze, changes in gloss level (deviation in gloss level <10% after initial gloss value, 1 year outdoor weather is allowed), these complaints are deviations in drawings or technical supply specifications specified.
Extended outdoor weathering resistance (for certain components) the following materials are subject to enhanced requirement for more than one year outdoor weather exposure without complaint:
Paints outside the body: 3 years
Paints other than plastic inserts: 2 years
Headlights (plastic headlight cover panel): 3 years
Plastic windows (e.g. side window panes, panoramic sunroofs): 4 years
For validation of new material concepts: 3 years (alternatively 3 summers)
