VW PV 1303 Non-Metallic Materials - Exposure Test of Passenger Compartment Components

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of VW PV 1303 standard. This VW PV 1303 Test Specification covers the testing of planar fabrics, plastic parts, rubber parts, paints, leathers, decorative wood parts as well as textile and film laminated components of vehicle interior trim for color fastness and resistance to light and heat.

This standard is performed as an evaluation of light-exposed parts for sample and standard production monitoring. It simply refers to exposing the samples(s) to a filtered xenon arc lamp in the tester. The exposed samples can also be used to determine residual tear strength, residual elongation at tear, and residual abrasion resistance.

In 'non-rotating mode', samples and lightfastness scales are constantly facing the light source during testing, meaning there is no light-dark variation (spinning mode) during this test. In this test, the samples are not sprayed with water. High temperature light exposure is assigned according to PV 1303.

The number of required periods is specified in the technical supply specification, depending on the location of the component. Requirements and deviations are calculated from VW, TL or test methods per drawing or version. Additional testing may also be required during interim checks and after completion of light exposure to evaluate the light fastness of the material (eg brushing, Crockmeter or Martindale abrasion test).

Samples are irradiated subject to “No Turning” and “Dry Exposure” instrument conditions. High heat stress on equipment materials inside the vehicle is simultaneously taken into account (exposure to high temperature light). Each of the specified test conditions defines an exposure time (according to specification DIN 75202, 1991).

The choice of device type to be used in specific cases should be coordinated with the responsible testing laboratory in the VW Group to ensure that the test results of the supplier and the customer are comparable. It is recommended to install the test equipment in a conditioned room. Otherwise, it may be necessary to use a connected cooling unit.

A colorimetric evaluation according to VW 501 90 should be performed, if possible, in addition to the visual evaluation, to avoid relatively large deviations between individual evaluators and reassessments.

Our EUROLAB test laboratory complies with ISO/IEC 17020 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories to help ensure accuracy and precision in performing tests, obtaining data and reporting results. EUROLAB comes with non-metallic material tests, detailed test reports, images of labels before and after testing, and all test data so they can be examined and analyzed.
