MIL PRF 28800 Standard Test for Use with Electrical and Electronic Equipment

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of MIL PRF 28800 standard. This specification covers general requirements for test equipment used in testing and calibrating electrical and electronic equipment.

Test equipment may be of commercial design and includes general-purpose, special-purpose, custom, console-mounted, automated test equipment (ATE) and calibration standards. This specification should also be used for internal test equipment (BITE) when internal testing (BIT) requirements are not included in the system specification. Detailed requirements for specific test equipment must be adapted in a purchase description for that equipment.

Test equipment covered by this specification is classified according to the performance characteristics required for an intended use and the most severe prevailing environmental conditions of such locations.

Class 1: Class 1 equipment is designed for harsh operational environments where environmental conditions are extreme with extreme climatic variation around the world. Examples include test equipment for use near aircraft, on tracked and wheeled vehicles, or in typical above-deck applications.

Class 2: Class 2 equipment is designed for harsh operating environments where environmental conditions are routinely encountered in an unprotected, uncontrolled climate. Test equipment for use as a multi-site portable device with significant environmental protection may be considered class 2.

Class 3: Class 3 equipment is designed for operational environments where conditions are routinely encountered in a diverse, controlled climate. Examples include test equipment for benchtop, rackmount, and occasional portable use in a variety of environmentally controlled locations.

Class 4: Class 4 equipment is designed for benign operational environments where environmental conditions are controlled and maintained. Examples include test equipment for use in a fully protected and environmentally controlled service area such as a laboratory.

The enclosure provides protection for retained system components during storage, transportation, and use that is compatible with the class of equipment being retained. A commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) enclosure normally supplied by the manufacturer and meeting its requirements is acceptable unless otherwise specified.
