MIL STD 1275 Characteristics of 28 Volt DC Electrical Systems in Military Vehicles

The MIL STD 1275 test standard covers the characteristics of 28-VDC (as opposed to 12 VDC) electrical systems in military vehicles, including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), start mode, normal operating mode, generator mode operation and their associated spikes, surges, and operating limits. Provides detailed requirements for military land platform electrical systems.

A MIL-STD 1275 compliant power supply must withstand the voltage transients specified in the standard without causing damage to it or the electronic component powered by it. As well as withstanding spikes and surges without damaging them, they must continue to provide clean, well-regulated power to their loads while sustaining those spikes and surges.

MIL STD 1275 embeds requirements from the military EMI/EMC standard MIL STD 461, as computers in military environments must coexist with other equipment such as powerful radio, radar, and microwave transmitters and highly sensitive receivers. This standard governs radiated and conducted emissions and sensitivity. In this way, electrical systems are limited by the amount of noise they can generate and what types and levels of interference they tolerate.

As part of MIL STD 461 sensitivity requirements, MIL STD 1275 specifies the amount of RF energy that is conducted so that the device can withstand and still function properly. For example, from 30 Hz to 5 kHz, the device must be able to withstand 126 dBμV (approximately 2 Vrms) added on top of the DC supply voltage.

EUROLAB also provides MIL STD 1275 testing services within the scope of other military testing services. Thanks to these services, businesses receive more effective, high-performance and quality testing services and provide safe, fast and uninterrupted service to their customers.
