IEC 60079-0 Explosive Atmospheres, Part 0: Equipment, General Requirements

IEC 60079-0:2017 specifies general specifications. Specifies requirements for the construction, testing and marking of Ex equipment and Ex components intended for use in explosive atmospheres.

This part of IEC 60079 and other standards supplementing this standard specify additional testing requirements for Ex equipment operating outside the standard temperature range, however, additional evaluation and additional testing may be required for Ex equipment operating outside the standard atmospheric pressure range and standard oxygen content. Such additional tests may be particularly relevant to flameproof enclosures (IEC 60079-1) or types of protection based on extinguishing a flame, such as energy limitation, internal safety (IEC 60079).

IEC 60079 does not specify safety requirements other than those directly related to explosion risk. Ignition sources such as adiabatic compression, shock waves, exothermic chemical reaction, self-ignition of dust, naked flames and hot gases/liquids are not covered by this standard.
