MIL-DTL-2031 Test for Composite Material Used in Boat, Machinery and Structural Applications in Marine Submarines

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of MIL-DTL-2031 testing. This standard provides fire and toxicity testing methods, requirements and qualification procedure to provide NAVSEA with the information necessary to approve composite material systems recommended for use in hull, machinery and structural applications as suitable for use in the confined environment of submarines.

MIL-DTL-2031 Test for Composite Material Used in Boat, Machinery and Structural Applications in Marine Submarines

This standard is applicable to all composites such as metallic, ceramic, carbon or organic matrix materials used as alternatives to conventional metals.

This standard applies to materials and composite materials and composite material systems used in applications such as composite gearbox covers, turbine covers, fan housings, ventilation ducts, insulation joints, pipe hangars, pipes, pumps, valves, flooring, grates, struts, ladders.

Hatches, pallets, weapons stacking and loading racks, logistics monorails, crew docking, foundations, bearing plates, non-structural tanks, accumulators, air bottles, launch tubes, propeller shafts and bearing housings. These are general body, machine and structural applications identified as candidate systems for composite materials. It is not intended to list every possible equipment/system component application, or to apply this standard to submarine basic pressure hull structure or items installed outside the pressure hull. Questions regarding approved or recommended practices will be directed to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), Non-Metallic Materials Branch.

The drafting activity recognizes that there are definitions, test methods, specifications and qualification procedures in use that are not included in this standard. However, those included here have undergone coordination through an industry consensus process or the DOD standardization process involved in the preparation of this standard. As a result, a certain degree of standardization has been achieved and this MIL-STD is intended to further enhance the understanding of composite fire performance and the standardization of test methods and qualification procedure for composite use in a confined environment.
