STANAG 2601 Test for Electrical Systems on Tactical Ground Vehicles

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of STANAG 2601 testing. STANAG standards, which are NATO standardization agreements, determine the military standards of NATO member countries. The purpose of the STANAG 2601 standard published in this framework is to respond to the interoperability requirements of electrical systems in military vehicles.

STANAG 2601 Test for Electrical Systems on Tactical Ground Vehicles

The STANAG 2601 standard aims to standardize the rated voltage of electrical systems of tactical ground vehicles for practical purposes such as:

  • Ability to provide or receive electrical power support in engine starting as needed;
  • In the case of a vehicle combination truck trailer or tow/semi-trailer from different member countries, the ability to provide electrical power to the trailer or semi-trailer for its lighting;
  • Ensuring interchangeability of vehicle electrical components from different brands or different member countries in an emergency.

Meanwhile, circuit features such as voltage drops, surges, and spikes are not included in this standard.

Studies on the needs and problems of the application of 42 volt direct current power systems in military vehicles continue. Current voltage levels, usually 28 volts, in military vehicles are struggling to meet the increasing demands of electrical loads, largely due to the development of power electronics. However, there are still some important points that need to be examined for the transition of 42-volt systems to military vehicles. Until the Second World War, the 24 Volt power system was used for system radios. Therefore, when the use of radio became widespread after the war, it was decided to have 24 volts in all military vehicles to allow the use of radio in any vehicle.

Tactical vehicles are motor vehicles or commercially designed motor vehicles designed to military specifications modified to military specifications to meet the transport support of combat or tactical operations or to train personnel for such operations. In today's ever-evolving battlefield, there is a growing need for heavy tactical vehicles to keep up with the terrain, environment, threats, demands and troops.
