This method has been validated for citrine in the range of 2,5 μg/kg to 3 μg/kg in red yeast rice and formulated food supplements, and 000 μg/kg to 2,5 μg in wheat flour.

Laboratory experience has shown that this method also applies to herbs such as white rice, ginkgo biloba leaf powder, and food supplements formulated in the range of 2,5 μg/kg to 50 μg/kg.

Mycotoxin citrinin, Penicillium (eg P. citrinum), Aspergillus (eg A. candidus) and Monascus. Citrine is mainly found in stored grains such as rice, corn, wheat, barley, oats and rye. Citrine can be found as a contaminant in Monascus purpureus and formulated dietary supplements and red fermented rice.
