EN 17279 Multi-Method Test Standard for Scanning Foodstuffs by LC-MS-MS in Foodstuffs Except Infants and Young Children's Foods

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 17279 standard. This standard describes a screening method for the determination of aflatoxin B1, deoxynivalenol, fumonisin B1 and B2, ochratoxin A, HT-2 and T-2 toxins, and zearalenone in foodstuffs by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with tandem mass spectrometry.

The purpose of the screening method is to test the compliance of foodstuffs with regulatory limits or to determine that a certain predefined level (screening target concentration, STC) has not been exceeded. The result of the scan is either "negative" or "suspicious". "Negative" (screen negative) means that the targeted mycotoxins are not detected or potentially present but below STC.

For full identification and accurate quantification, a second confirmatory quantitative analysis method is required, which is beyond the scope of this document.

The method is suitable for a variety of foodstuffs and has been validated for representative matrices from four product groups:

• High starch or protein content and low water and fat content: Wheat, grain mix, wheat flour and corn flakes;
• High fat content: Peanut;
• High sugar, low water content: Fig;
• High water content: Grape juice.
