EN 14182 Packaging - Terminology - Standard Test Method for Basic Terms and Definitions

The terms and definitions in this annex are derived directly from the Directive and therefore the CEN "terminology" format and style has not been applied to these definitions. This standard complies with EN 13193. They are therefore presented as informative text and are included as they relate to the concept of large packaging and also for the convenience of the reader. Where appropriate, and particularly where these definitions differ from general usage, some explanation of these differences is provided.

Packaging refers to all products made of any material used for the preservation, protection, transportation, delivery and presentation of goods, from raw materials to finished goods, from the producer to the user or the consumer. Non-returnable items used for the same purpose are also considered packaging.

Reuse means any operation in which packaging is refilled or used for the purpose for which it was designed, with or without auxiliary support, which is designed to move or rotate a minimum number of times during its lifecycle. products available on the market that enable refilling of the packaging; such reused packaging will be packaging waste when it is no longer subject to reuse.
