EN 14149 Packaging, Complete, Filled Transport Packages and Unit Loads, Impact Test with Rotary Drop

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 14149 standard. This European standard specifies methods for performing a drop test on full, filled transport packages or unit loads.

It can be performed as a single test to investigate the effects of rotary impact, or as part of a series of tests designed to measure the ability of a package or unit load to withstand a distribution system with a rotating impact hazard.

One edge or corner of the test item is lifted to a predetermined height above a hard impact surface, with the opposite edge or corner resting on the impact surface or one or two blocks of a specified height. The test item is then released to fall freely and impact the hard impact surface.

Whenever possible, the test should be performed under the same atmospheric conditions used for conditioning, especially where this is critical to the packaging's materials or application. In other cases, the test should be carried out in atmospheric conditions as close as possible to those used for conditioning.

The test item should normally be filled with its intended content. However, simulated or substituted contents may be used, provided their dimensions and physical characteristics are as close as possible to the intended contents.
