ISTA 1A Package Test

Packaging Tests

ISTA 1A Package Test

ISTA Test Procedure 1A was set up to test individually packaged products of 150 pounds or less. ISTA 1 series tests challenge the packaging and product's ability to withstand transport hazards. This transit test procedure is considered an integrity test.

ISTA 1A Package Test

The benefits of the ISTA test are many. Package testing increases customer satisfaction with undamaged products. It also provides economic benefits or less claims for returns and damage. It helps companies identify potential problems before they become real problems.

Testing services for the development of a product and package can be useful for companies. By identifying weak points in a package, there is an opportunity for redesign to correct the problem before mass production. This will save a lot of time and money later. EUROLAB engineers will work with you to avoid such problems.

ISTA package test procedure 1A includes preconditioning, vibration and shock. Preconditioning is to ensure that the product and packaging are at ambient temperature before testing. The vibration test is fixed displacement. The shock test consists of a fall, tilt stroke, or horizontal stroke. The customer can choose any of these three shock test methods.

Unlike some other ISTA standards, ISTA 1A requires only one test sample.

ISTA 1A offers the following recommendations:

  • Use ISTA Test Procedure 1G to use random vibration instead of fixed displacement vibration.
  • Use ISTA 1C for packaged products where the minimum compression value should be tested.
  • Consider ISTA 2A for packaged products for international distribution.
  • Consider ISTA 3A for packaged products that can be carried in a small parcel distribution system.

What can be obtained from ISTA 1A packaging test results?

The results provide an assessment of the performance of the packaged product. This evaluation can be used to compare alternative packaging designs. It can also be used to compare various packaging materials.
