ISTA 1H Package Test

Packaging Tests

ISTA 1H Package Test

The ISTA test standard is ISTA Procedure 150H for over 1 kilogram packaged products. This test procedure requires the shipper to identify a number or product before testing. This includes what harms the product. If any, it is necessary to define what damage tolerance is allowed.

The product status should be determined after the test is completed. At the end of the transit test, it is evaluated whether the packaging is in an acceptable condition.

Only one sample is required for this test. However, ISTA recommends testing five or more samples to ensure accurate results. The sample must be the actual untested product and package. If both are not available, the backups should be the same as possible.

The test procedure includes conditioning to ambient temperature and humidity. There are also mandatory random vibration and rotation edge fall test. The sender must also complete the socks test. Any of three methods can be used. These methods are fall, slope effect and horizontal effect.

Why is package testing so important?

Package testing provides valuable information before the product sales process. Companies with sufficient packaging will save money thanks to low returns. They will also benefit from not replacing their reputation by damaged products. More and more retailers and distributors are requesting package certification.

By completing package tests, sellers can identify better packaging methods. This may include smaller dimensions and fewer dunnages. This may include the use of different materials, including recycled materials. The product placement in the package can also be changed to find the best combination.
