EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of ASTM D4541 standard. This standard is used to evaluate the tensile strength of a coating system from metal substrates. Tensile strength determined by this procedure is a performance characteristic and may be referenced in specifications.
The tensile test is performed by fixing a loading fixture, such as a dolly or stud, to the surface of the pavement being tested with an adhesive.
A test jig is attached to the loading fixture and aligned to apply tension to the test surface. The force applied to the loading device is then gradually increased and monitored until the loading device disengages or a certain load value is reached.
There are two main protocols for this standard test. Protocol 1 (fracture testing) determines the maximum vertical forces that a surface area can withstand before a plug of material separates. Protocol 2 (pass/fail) determines whether the coated surface will remain intact at a defined load criterion.
