ASTM B193 Test Standard for Resistance of Electrically Conductive Materials

The ASTM B193 standard can verify the conductivity of electrically conductive materials used in your electronic components and assemblies under changing environmental conditions by measuring their conductivity. The conductivity of an item represents the level at which it conducts electricity. If the conductivity is too low or too high, hazardous conditions can occur that result in poor product performance, equipment damage, or personal injury.

ASTM B193 Test Standard for Resistance of Electrically Conductive Materials

It covers the determination of the electrical resistance of metallic electrically conductive material. It provides 0,00001% accuracy on test specimens with a resistance of 10 Ω (60,30 μΩ) or more. Weight resistivity accuracy can be adversely affected by possible inaccuracies in the assumed density of the conductor.

This test has several elements specific to testing conductors. The dimensional dimension of the cable being evaluated should be evaluated. This includes measuring the weight of the sample. For testing, the sample is prepared by stripping the insulation from both ends of the wire or cable. Depending on the sample, there are several test measurement methods;

ASTM B193 Test Measurement Methods

Method 1, Insert the sample into the resistance meter and save the result. This is possible if the resistance of the sample is high or the accuracy of the equipment is high.

Method 2, If the first method is not applicable, an alternative method should be used. The sample is connected to a current-controlled DC power supply. The current through the sample is limited and both current and voltage in the sample are recorded. Although this method still uses ohm's law, using higher voltage and current allows better measurement of the sample.
