This test method specifies apparatus and procedures for the electrometric measurement of pH values of aqueous solutions with a glass electrode. It is not concerned with the way solutions are prepared.
Good precision pH measurements can be made in aqueous solutions containing high concentrations of electrolytes or water-soluble organic compounds, or both.
It should be understood, however, that pH measurements in such solutions are only a semi-quantitative indication of hydrogen ion concentration or activity. The measured pH will only give an accurate result for these amounts when the composition of the medium approximately matches that of the standard reference solutions.
Values stated in SI units or inch-pound units will be considered standard separately.
