Three options are included. Option 1 uses heat and a Soxhlet extraction apparatus. Option 2 uses room temperature and extraction funnels. Option 3 uses the extraction of Option 1 or Option 2 but allows extractable matter to be calculated from the loss in mass of the material due to extraction rather than the residual extractable matter.
The solvents to be used in this method are those agreed upon by the relevant party or parties; Halogenated Hydrocarbon (HH) such as chloroform, tetrachloroethane, alcohol (isopropyl or methyl).
This test method may not remove any cross-linked finishes or resins that may be present on the textile.
Values specified in SI units will be considered standard. There is no other measurement unit in this standard.
