Bricks are prismatic units that come in a variety of sizes, textures, colors and shapes. This specification is not intended to provide specifications for paving brick.
Bricks are ceramic products made mainly from clay, shale or similar naturally occurring earthy materials and subjected to heat treatment at high temperatures (baking). The inclusion of additives or recycled materials is allowed at the manufacturer's option. Heat treatment must develop an ignited bond between the particle components to meet the strength and durability requirements of this specification.
Brick is shaped by molding, pressing or extrusion during manufacture, and the shaping method is one way of describing the brick.
This standard and its individual requirements shall not be used to qualify or justify the performance of a wall unit made of other materials or other forming methods or other means of attaching materials.
