ASTM F2825 Test

ASTM F2825 Standard Practice in Climatic Stress of Packaging Systems for Single-Parcel Delivery

ASTM F2825 is a tool to evaluate packaging systems that are exposed to different climate stresses. This test aims to simulate the distribution chain and many different climates that a package can encounter within the chain. This is a conditioning application that must be done before other tests.

ASTM F2825 Test

For the purposes of this test, ASTM F2825 defines climatic stress. Climatic stress is “exposing the packaging system test samples to temperature and humidity conditions for a certain period of time, simulating the expected conditions seen in the defined storage and distribution system.” This test does not apply to refrigerated, frozen food storage or cryogenic. storage conditions.

Three (3) devices are required for this test:

  • Room (or closet) - this should be large enough to hold the sample cups. If there is more than one sample, they should be able to stand alone and have circulating air. The room should also have a controller that can maintain a constant temperature.
  • Hygrometer - this device is used to measure relative humidity. +/- 2% must be sensitive to relative humidity. A psychrometer can also be considered as a direct measuring device or monitoring of the hygrometer.
  • Thermometer - this is any device that measures the temperature. The temperature should be accurate within 0,1 ° C or 0,2 °.

ASTM F2825 testTo begin with, the packet system must be defined and defined for reporting purposes. Determine which environmental conditions best simulate, keeping in mind the actual distribution chain time. Write a test plan that includes the sequence, conditions, and exposure times. The test sample used should represent actual packaging and products. Smudged or minor flawed content can be used as long as the integrity of the item is not damaged.

Such errors will also need to be documented for the report. It is very important that nothing damage the package or its contents before testing. Samples can be assembled in the lab to make sure the packages are not damaged. Special care is taken when shipping products over long distances or to a remote lab.

The test will be carried out to meet the features of the test plan. The package system will be evaluated according to predetermined acceptance criteria. The test lab will write a report following the guidelines of the ASTM F2825 standard. The report should include information on temperature, relative humidity, and exposure time. It should also include pre-conditioning atmosphere and exposure time.
