ASTM C581 Test Standard for Determination of Chemical Resistance of Thermoset Resins Used in Glass Fiber Reinforced Structures for Liquid Service Purposes

ASTM C581 is designed to evaluate the chemical resistance of thermosetting resins used in the manufacture of reinforced thermoset plastic (RTP) laminates in an unstressed state. This application allows the determination of changes in the test specimens and test reagent's described properties after exposure of the specimens to the reagent, such as the hardness of the specimens, the thickness of the weight change, the appearance of the specimens, the appearance of the immersion medium, and the flexural strength and modulus.

This application is also useful for assessing other factors such as coating curtains and the effect of resin additives on the chemical resistance of the resin.

Values stated in inch-pound units should be considered standard. Values in parentheses are mathematical conversions to non-standard SI units, provided for informational purposes only. There is no known ISO equivalent to this standard.

This standard does not purport to address all, if any, safety concerns associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health and environmental practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory restrictions prior to use.

Our company, EUROLAB, also provides testing services within the scope of the ASTM C581 test standard for determining the chemical resistance of thermoset resins used in glass fiber reinforced structures for liquid service purposes, within the framework of laboratory testing services.
